Mind
Mental Focus
Our mind never stops working. Choosing to control one’s throughout and focus with true vision is the art of mental clarity. Going outside of one's comfort zone and maintaining equilibrium requires mental focus. Silencing the voices of fear and self-doubt whilst encouraging one to challenge their own limits is part of the AGY practice. We work on quieting of the noisy chatter of the mind allowing for mental clarity to emerge.
Challenge the Hippocampus to gain Physio - Verbio Acuity
Responding physically to a verbal command is often associated with boot camp style workouts. Development of this crucial awareness is a part of the Antigravity® Yoga regime. By learning new movements you are challenging the hippocampus of the brain thereby giving yourself a brain workout and making yourself smarter!
Inducing Happiness
When we turn upside down we stimulate the pituitary gland which in turn releases hormones. Seratonin, dopamine and adrenaline levels increase while endorphines are also released into the blood stream. Learning new movements also excites several neurotransmitters (dopamine, serotonin and endorphins); these affect your sense of well-being and help modulate anxiety and clear depression. For those who suffer from depression, inversion therapy is key to a healthy attitude. In Antigravity® Yoga we nurture having fun, resetting neural pathways for a positive outlook.
Sharpen Astuteness of Cerebellum
Your cerebellum is your brain's inner computer. It is responsible for balance, coordination and skilled movement. You sharpen the astuteness of the cerebellum and primary motor cortex of your brain by challenging your balance
Increase Neuroplasticity
The nervous system is constantly rewiring itself increasing one’s neuroplasticity while forming new synaptic connections. Learn new motor patterns and increase its capacity. During AGY you create more frequent and more powerful synapses allowing your brain to become and stay more resilient.
Fine-tune Neuromuscular Coordination
The harmonious functioning of muscles in the execution of movement is called neuromuscular coordination. Increasing this function not only allows you to make actions look easy and smooth but it just may also help you stop forgetting where you left your cellphone.

In order to be an effective warrior against the aging effects of gravity, one's body needs to be in balance. AntiGravity® Aerial Yoga is unique in its cross-training methods as an over-all full body workout that not only guarantees better athletic performance, but also assists in restoring health in Body, Mind and Spirit.
In AntiGravity® Aerial Yoga, the added element of swinging in a hammock adds an entirely new dimension to one’s yoga practice. This swinging playful element, as well as the zero-compression inversions is what makes this style of yoga revolutionary.
AntiGravity® Yoga has numerous classes within their curriculum according to age and levels, however, they all have a few things in common. Each class begins with a levitating meditation called “Womb”. Enveloped within the AntiGravity® Hammock in a Badda Konasana pose the class comes to “presence”. That is followed up with a zero compression inversion. The class is very carefully guided in and out through a series of simple progressions. Everyone is successful every single time (see “contraindications” for those who are not recommended to invert). The remainder of the class is dedicated to hydrating joints through mobility exercises, elongating and strengthening the muscles, decompression of the spine and fine-tuning proprioceptors for better agility through swinging exercises. Each class finishes with a “Floating Savasana” meditation where one seals the positive effects of their practice. Everyone leaves the class with renewed energy having had a healing in body, mind and spirit.
Once you get up the courage to join an AntiGravity® Yoga class expect a positive recalibration. Aerial Yoga is like a tune up for your body. You will release all the kinks from your spine, stir up your hormones, pump up and elongate your muscles, cells, hydrate and mobilize your joints and leave feeling a sense of accomplishment on a cellular level.
Most of all, AntiGravity® Aerial Yoga is FUN!!!
Come fly with us! You will leave lighter and taller!
Body
Spinal Decompression
Zero compression inversions release the strain on the disks of the vertebrae allowing pressure to be released and alignment to go back to natural positioning by reversing the downward pull of gravity. Decompressing the spine, helps the muscular-skeletal system refresh, becoming more subtle while properly realigning. The upside down hanging effect also improves posture, facilitating good breathing and reducing muscular stress. The pelvic girdle and sacrum are also greatly benefited from inversions in the same manner. We spend our days compressing our spinal column. By the end of the day our spine is ¼ to ¾ “ shorter. By inverting our spine without compression from the hips, we allow the space in between the vertebrae where the cartilaginous discs reside to hydrate. The nerves that are located in the spinal column are given space to breathe.
System Refresh
The entire body is reconditioned by the regular practice of inversions. Inverted poses refresh the body systems even as the glandular, skeletal and circulatory systems and get reprieve from the strain of gravity. The endocrine system, the digestive system, the lymphatic system, the nervous system, the reproductive system and the respiratory system are all refreshed when we invert our bodies. There is much research available about the “nourishing” effects of inversions.
Speed
The reason the cheetah is the fastest animal in the world is due to the flexibility of its spine in both directions. If you want to increase speed, increase the pliability of your spinal column. This is the primary focus of the sun salutation series within Antigravity® Aerial Yoga.
Muscular Endurance
Often the reason one cannot maintain endurance is due to the lactic acid build up or burn out of an overused muscle. A car with a wobbly tire cannot out race one with balance, even when it has a larger engine. Muscles are more efficient when they are both strong and flexible and when they are working in conjunction with the other muscle groups around them. Shortened muscles mean tight joints, which also means less efficiency and decreased endurance. By training in Antigravity® Aerial Yoga one increases their muscular endurance, therefore lengthening and strengthening vital muscles.
Muscular Strength
Brute strength is not measured by the capacity of just one muscle, but by the synergy of the muscular system and it’s capacity to work together. Often the larger muscle groups take too much of the load not allowing the smaller stabilizing muscle groups to do their part. The subtle exercises isolating smaller muscles are as important as the primary muscle group exercises for joint stabilization. Our Aerial Yoga training classes are designed to do JUST that.
Muscular Flexibility
Efficient muscles are both strong and flexible. A muscle that is too tight puts undo pressure on tendons, which can lead to tears and strains. Flexibility training in Aerial Yoga utilizes the specially designed Antigravity® hammock to 1) go deeper into poses and 2) leverage gravity with the apparatus to find new ways to elongate the muscles.
Joint Mobility
For a joint to be efficient it needs to operate with full range of motion. To increase longevity, it needs to be hydrated. "If you don't use it, you will lose it" is never more true than in the joint capsules of the body. Aerial Yoga keeps ones joints lubricated in full range of motion. During the gyro-kinetic action created in Antigravity® Suspension Yoga, synovial fluid is released and soft tissue is hydrated minimizing the aging effects of daily compression.
Kinesthetic Awareness - Agility
Since we live under the constant force of gravity, understanding ones relationship to the ground throughout the phases of movement is crucial to agility. Learning to understand physics on multiple planes only adds to ones agility level. True kinesthetic awareness training incorporates upside down action and horizontal action as well as right side up through both static poses and through movement. The greater our kinesthetic awareness, the greater our balance, the greater our agility and the less likely we will be to fall. Antigravity® Yoga training focuses on increasing proprioceptive response timing.
Injury Prevention
The more our body works synergistically, the less likely we are to have an injury. By training kinesthetic awareness and by making the muscles and joints more effective, we minimize the risk of injury.
Injury Rehabilitation
The more one knows their own body, the better they can affect healing. The more they understand the connection of their own thoughts to their health, the quicker they can affect positive change. Antigravity® Aerial Yoga is a body, mind & spirit technique keeping in mind wellness as a whole.
Myofacial Release
AGY has a few very unique deep tissue self massage techniques that free up the body from undo tightness --- especially in the neck and hips.
Jump
One's jump is based on the efficiency of the body. The most often neglected portion of the jump is the foot. By working the foot effectively we not only add an extra bit of air, but we also soften the landing. Foot exercises and quadriceps - glut strengthening exercises in Antigravity® Yoga are certain to increase vertical jump.
Better Sex
Greater Awareness leads to enhanced pleasure. Yoga is a practice of AWARENESS. The more aware one is of the nuances of their body, the more responsive it becomes to stimulus. The more we are aware of the thought patterns of the mind, the more we are able to control how those thoughts limit or enhance the experience. The more one is aware of their spirit, the more they can live in appreciation, enjoying the present moment. It is becoming aware that leads us to better health.
The healthier we are the more robust is our lovemaking and the more we can experience the gift of pleasure. Our ability to tap into our own greatest resources of pleasure, however, is ruled by the confines of the mind, the physical limitations of our body and by our connection to our own spirit aka consciousness. The connection of two human beings is a rather unique phenomenon. For most species sex is purely for procreation, not recreation. This is not true for us humans.
Beyond the physical sensation, sex is a complex mental/emotional experience which, when approached from a healthy perspective is one of the greatest occurrences we can discover through our bodies. The connection between human beings through sexual contact is a beautiful thing. Our ability to love and share ourselves fully is dependent on our health. Aerial Yoga not only trains awareness, on each of these fronts, but also increases circulation, which can make a difference in performance in both men and women. The more flexible and strong the muscles of the body are; the greater one’s kinesthetic awareness grows, the more playful sex becomes and the more options are available for creative exploration.
Spirit
Affecting Change in our World
By quieting both the body and the mind, in stillness we remember our essence. We remember who we truly are, before we were given a name and a country and a religion and all the many labels we carry. When we bring ourselves truly into the present moment and shut off all the voices of the mind, we are exercising spirit.
When we remember who we truly are, our perspective also changes and we can affect change in the world around us.
Handling Life Challenges
The more we exercise spirit the easier it is to deal with the challenges of life. When we leave the ego of the mind and come into the present, we remember our connection to the universe. Things that seemed insurmountable suddenly become manageable as we open our minds to the bigger picture. This is best done through meditation.
Changing Thought Patterns
We become the calm amongst the chaos, the eye of the storm. We remember that we are not our brain but that we have a brain. We then realize we are not our thoughts but that we have thoughts. Connecting with our spirit helps us to control our thought patterns, sending away those that do not serve our better good and replacing them with thoughts of a higher consciousness. This will in turn affect our life experience.
